Nutrition education is one of the benefits of the WIC Program and is made available at no cost to all participants. Nevada WIC strives to provide nutrition education that meets the needs, interests, household situation and cultural preferences of participants.
Nutrition education is provided both individually and in group session. On a case-by-case basis, when special accommodation is required, nutrition education can be done online. Supportive education materials are provided that are in keeping with the personal and cultural preferences of the individual(s).
Through the nutrition education offered by the WIC program, mothers learn not only about their specific nutritional needs but also those of their infants and children. Participants are taught how to shop for nutritious foods as well as how to prepare well-balanced meals. Individual nutrition counseling services are also provided.
