NE: 4 Nutrition Education Materials
|Effective Date: 07/09||Downloads: PDF Version||Revised Date: 07/15|
To ensure that materials presented to WIC participants contain accurate, current, and professionally recognized nutrition information, State Office education materials will be utilized or local agencies may submit developed materials to the State for approval.
All materials handed out at nutrition education contacts shall be approved by the State Office. If a Local Agency (LA) is interested in using its own material, it may submit to the Nutrition Services Coordinator for approval.
All materials must include the USDA nondiscrimination statement. See CR: 5. LAs are encouraged to contact the State Office for nutrition education resources or recommendations if needed. Materials being utilized for both nutrition education and outreach must have the nondiscrimination statement included.
Handouts and Brochures
All current State approved handouts and brochures are listed on the “WIC Program Order Form-Supplies and Forms”, and are available in English and Spanish. Out of date materials should not be used for participant education.
Nutrition Education Materials (handouts, flyers, etc.) developed within the local agency must be submitted to the State Office for approval. Materials being utilized for both nutrition education and outreach must have the nondiscrimination statement included.
LAs will maintain a current inventory of all DVD’s provided by the State Office.
LAs are encouraged to maintain incentive items (i.e. pedometers, nursing bras, etc.) provided by the State Office in each clinic to be used in participants’ Nutrition Education contacts.
Other education materials (posters, bulletin boards, magazines) also must adhere to the same standards. LAs must ensure that no specific food manufacturing company or brand is being promoted (i.e. Gerber) and must ensure formula is not being advertised.
